Add a subscribe form to your Tumblr site

If you use a Tumblr site, you can add a sign up form to it, to encourage people to subscribe to your mailing list.

You can either set up the form as a stand-alone page, or display it on every page. We'll show you how to do both in the instructions that follow.

Before you get started, first create a subscribe form. It's fast and easy to do. You just customize the form details with a few clicks, then we generate the code you'll need to complete the instructions below.

Adding the subscribe form code to Tumblr

Option 1. Display the subscribe form on every page

Log in to your Tumblr account and select the blog you want to add the subscribe form to:

  1. Click the 'settings cog' at the top of the screen.
  2. Click the name of your Tumblr blog in the left sidebar.
  3. Click the Customize button below the picture of the current site theme.

Paste the code into the Title/Description text box, in the left sidebar. You will immediately see the form appear on your template in the "about" section.

Click Save at the top of the page to complete.

Option 2. Create a stand-alone page for the subscribe form

Follow steps 1 to 3 from the instructions above. Then, on the customization page, scroll down to find the PAGES header in the left sidebar. Click once to reveal the + Add a page link.

Tumblr pages

A pop-up window will appear where you can enter a URL and Page Title for the subscribe form page. Make sure you tick the Show a link to this page checkbox so the page title will appear in your site's navigation.

Tumblr: Add a page

Note: The location of the navigation menu will vary, depending on the theme you have chosen.

Next, click the HTML button in the WYSIWYG editor toolbar (see above). Another pop-up window will appear, which is where you paste the source code for the content of your page.

Tumblr: Page source

In this case, it's not a simple cut-and-paste of the subscribe form code generated from your account. Because Tumblr automatically removes form elements, you'll need to host your subscribe form externally, embed it within an iframe, then paste the iframe code into the HTML Source Editor, as shown above.

Click Update to close the HTML window, and save the new page to complete. People who sign up from your Tumblr site will now be added directly to your subscriber list.
