If you enter a domain name that has already been authenticated in another account, you will see an alert with the following message:
This is to prevent the credentials being used fraudulently, as authenticated domains are intended to uniquely identify a sender.
Option 1:
Copy the details from the other account
If you are an administrator on both accounts, you can use the same authenticated domain by manually copying the Name/host, and the public and private keys from one account to the other.
Copy records from your authenticated account
In your account that already has domain authentication:
-
Click your profile image at the top right, then select Account settings.
-
Click Sending domains.
-
Make note of the authenticated domain already in use, then click the dots to the right of its name to expose the menu. Select View details.
-
You will see the corresponding fields to copy/paste into the new account records. Specifically, you will want to copy:
-
Selector
-
Public key
-
Private key
-
To prevent identity fraud, do not share authenticated domain details with anyone else. If you suspect someone has access to your details who shouldn't, you can generate new private and public keys by deleting the existing authenticated domain, and going through the authentication process again.
Add authentication records to another account
In your other account:
-
Click your profile image at the top right, then select Account settings.
-
Click Sending domains.
-
Click Set up a sending domain (or if you already have authenticated domains set up, Add domain)
-
In the Domain field enter the authenticated domain. You will see a warning indicating the domain is already authenticated with another account and will be directed to the area where you can add in existing details. Add in the details that you copied from the other account into the corresponding fields.
-
Click Authenticate now.
-
Once the details have been successfully added, you will see a confirmation message.
Option 2:
Generate new records for this account
If you are not the administrator of the other account, you can generate new records for the domain.
- Click I’ll generate new records for this account.
- Click Generate new records.
- Follow the instructions to enter the new records into your DNS provider and click on Continue.
