Unfortunately it's not possible to stop or recall a sent email after it has left our servers. Similarly, content or subject lines can't be changed after an email has been sent.
If you've made a content error that can't be fixed, and it's business or time critical, consider sending another, corrected email that notes the original error.
When an A/B test is in progress you can't change the campaign, but you can cancel it before it is sent to your entire list.
Pre-send checklist
There are many small details to check before sending an email. As a company that sends its own emails, we know first hand what it feels like for an email to have a mistake! We've combined the lessons learned from our mistakes to create the following checklist.
- Has the "From" name been checked, and is it the best choice?
- Is the "Reply To" address correct?
- Is the email being sent to the correct recipients?
- Have you set up appropriate fallbacks for any personalization tags used, including personalized "From" names and email addresses?
- Do all images have alt text set, for when email clients block images?
- Have you done a spell and grammar check on:
- Does your email have a working unsubscribe link?
- Have you checked the plain text version of the email for errors?
- Does the email look as expected in desktop and mobile clients (Gmail, Apple Mail, Outlook, Postbox, etc)?
- Have you sent yourself a test email, and made sure all your text links, image links and buttons lead to the correct place?
- Has another person checked the email for errors?
- If you are hosting a newsletter archive, does the campaign name makes sense?
