Permission required to use this feature: Accounts that have purchased an SMS add-on
Once SMS campaigns are enabled in your account, you can request mobile phone numbers at the same points where you collect subscriber email addresses and other details — signup forms and subscriber preference centers.
Mobile numbers and SMS marketing consent
Consent is required for sending SMS campaigns, so adding the Mobile number field will automatically add an SMS marketing consent checkbox. It is your responsibility to comply with all relevant local regulations and ensure that subscribers are aware of your policies when signing up.
Mobile number can be added to new or existing signup forms.
To get started:
- Click Lists & subscribers, then click on the relevant list name.
- Click Signup forms in the left menu.
- Select a signup form type from the options listed.
Mobile number will be listed with the default fields Name and Email in the Fields section of the customization options. Check the box to display the field on your form and use the Required checkbox if you want to make the field mandatory. Choose a default country from the menu that appears underneath to ensure that users enter their number in an appropriate format for their locale.

In the Options section, Collect SMS marketing consent now appears. This option is required when the Mobile number field is included and cannot be disabled. Both the SMS consent label text and SMS consent policy text can be customized to suit your brand and local requirements.

Subscriber preference centers
Mobile number can be added to subscriber preference centers.
To get started:
- Click Lists & subscribers, then select the relevant subscriber list.
- Click Custom fields in the left menu.
- Fields can be set to Visible or Hidden.
- When you select Visible, an additional option will appear that allows you to select whether the field should be Required. Selecting this makes the field mandatory which means the subscriber will not be able to save their preferences until they have completed the field.

To customize SMS consent text:
- On the Custom fields page, click the cog icon next to the Preference center column header to be taken to the Customize subscriber preference center page.
- Edit the SMS consent text.
- Click Save changes.

Asking your subscribers to provide their mobile
If you want to collect mobile numbers from your existing subscribers so you can send them SMS campaigns, you can include links to your Subscriber preference center in your email campaigns.
The quick link tag [preferences]
can be used as the URL for any text, button, or image in the email builder. This link can be prominent, or incorporated into a message that encourages your subscribers to provide their mobile number. A link to the Subscriber preference center is not limited to being a text link in your email header or footer.

You can also include a preference center quick link tag in custom coded emails
